This coach was purchased by LNERCA mainly for its sliding sidelights, many of which were missing from 56856 and a few from 641. It was not considered a feasible restoration project itself due to it having a flat steel roof and no orginal interior fittings. An interesting departmental life it had an observation window in the roof and mouning brackets for a pantograph, presumably for testing overhead wires. It finished its working life as an internal user at Ilford.
